It (the GST cut) is their big initiative and it doesn't leave them a lot of room to do other things.
He has to be seen to be doing something and I think removing the GST on fuel excise, which is a tax on a tax, is a tangible way to show the Government cares.
I see the biggest protest ever on Parliament Hill in June. I can see the streets packed with people as if it were Canada Day and there will be chartered planes and buses coming in. It could be something like a march against a GST increase or even a protest against another war, but people are going to be boisterous about it ... Something very good is going to come out of it for Canadians, I see them cheering June 10th or 11th with a national address on TV.

I would go to them and I would explain this is the price of going forward. We're going to move ahead in all these other areas. We're moving ahead in tax reform and GST, we are moving ahead on trade, but this will not be done at the cost of the environment.
Security is not a high enough priority for IT networks here, ... We're concerned about Y2K and GST problems. Security is priority two or three. It needs to be number one.
We are absolutely determined to fight for what we believe is a much fairer tax cut and a much more competitive tax cut, which is the Liberal one as opposed to the GST cut, which all the experts agree is the worst possible measure.
